Storytelling in the Community project connected with local parent and toddler groups in east Belfast with the aim to:
- To share messages with families of the role of storytelling and books in their child development
- Connect Parent and Toddler groups with the EastSide ELC and introduce an opportunity to explore how to continue to be involved.
The project used a donation of books to test our framework as a planning tool, reach out to a new set of potential partners and share clear messages to parents and caregivers about the value of books and storytelling.
Why Parent and Toddler groups?
Parent and toddler groups, many times, are the first spaces some parents and caregivers visit with their young children. This presents an opportunity to engage with these groups to support families to find local resources and information that can help them support their children’s development. The EastSide ELC can support these settings in providing information for families and connect them to professionals that can support them.
The project included:
- An information session for settings- offering an introduction to the EastSide ELC
- Storytelling session for each group with professional storyteller and professionals from Sure Start and other partners to engage with parents and caregivers
- Mini library of books for each family
- Set of books for setting
